Nice Surprise

Greeted with overcast skies and a light drizzle this morning.  This is not enough to dampen our spirits though.
We'd had a good night's sleep at the caravan park (I showered with frogs).
There's not a great deal to see at Mount Garnet, but we found a nice surprise close to the tiny hamlet in the shape of a quaint looking dam, all adorned with lilly pads.  The magpies were carolling beautifully when we arrived there and were quite friendly.
There is lots of evidence that this is a favourite spot for the local youngsters,  the evidence being ropes hanging from trees on the water's edge and lots of empty drink cans, etcetera around the area.   We could only imagine that this is the local water supply.
We followed a dirt road from here for a short distance but since we haven't got very good maps for the area, we turned back and made our way to Innot Springs. There is almost a resort atmosphere when we arrive at Innot Springs and we realise then why the caravan park at Mount Garnet was so quiet...everybody had driven the few extra kilometres to the caravan park at Innot Springs.  But we were happy to have stayed the night at Mount Garnet because it was very quiet and the settings were park like with lots of birds and trees.
Millstream Falls National Park was next.
A short walk lead us to the falls in the national park.   These falls are the widest single-drop falls in Australia.

One more friendly magpie.

After a quick stop at Ravenshoe (wet and cold) to gather information about Misty Mountains. We drive around in the wet  looking for walking tracks but it seems everything is vague; no money, no maintenance has turned the walks into ones that only the most experienced could find. Bad weather turns us away and we then lunched in Herberton, viewed the mining museum, (where Andrew panned for tin) and drove to Atherton to stop for the night.
Surprise, surprise, Atherton Show on next week and the town's accommodation is booked up.  After the first refusal we decide to leave the town and meander down to Tinaroo for a spot in the caravan across from the lake.

Our eldest son worked in Herberton at the tin mine some years ago, as part of his university degree requirements.
The museum holds a list of all employees that worked at the tin mine there and we searched for our son's name but could not find it.  After the search we were informed the list was for employees before 1946 (or thereabouts).  I didn't know we looked so old!!!!!
