On the Road Again, William Creek to Coober Pedy

In the desert you can't remember your name cause there ain't no one to give you no pain. *

What can I say?
We left the Oodnadatta Track and the remnants of the Old Ghan Railway at William Creek and took the William Creek Road to Coober Pedy.
For a while we had Anna Creek Station (the world's largest cattle station) on the right and the Woomera Prohibited Area on the left. After travelling for less than twenty kilometres we would enter the Woomera Prohibited Area and continue along this route all the way into Coober Pedy.
How cattle survive out here I have no idea!
On a drive of one hundred and sixty eight kilometres we saw one other car.
This road was probably the worse one we'd driven on so far...but still not as bad as we had expected. Little red flags posted straight into the dirt road warn drivers of impending exceptionally large holes, crevasses, etcetera. Car breaks had to be slammed on once or twice. Doing a u-turn can be dangerous here, as silt builds up to many centimetres alongside the road after rain...(before we arrived in Parachilina front end loaders had to be used to clear soil probably metres thick off some sections of road).
Along this road I witnessed kangroos turn into scrub, huts turn into small trees, emus transform into fence posts, castles melt into the never never and water spill over hectares only to disappear and reform further down the road. Welcome to the land of the mirage.
The road was some centimetres lower than the surrounding terrain and quite often disappeared from view even while driving.
Yes, it's easy to get lost out here.
Mostly we drove in silence (or was that in awe?) .
