Yourambulla Caves

These caves were an unexpected find on the way to Wilpena. We parked the car at the carpark and began the climb to the first cave. There are some very impressive Aboriginal rock paintings in the cave we saw but I am always a little reluctant to photograph indigenous rock art in its natural state so I have not published the one or two photos that we have.
As you can see, the outlook was spectacular.
Can you see our car down there? It was a warm day and as we had literally stumbled across this site, we didn't know much about the layout of the caves and after walking a considerable distance to the second cave (there are three in all), we decided to make our way back to the car. On our descent, we came across a tour guide with a small group of tourist about to ascend the stairs. He explained to us that after visiting the third cave we could have continued in a loop and descended a much gentler slope back to the car...oh, well, next time.
The scenery is getting me excited about spending time at Wilpena.
